Well, to most of the family, anyway. Time zones make it hard to call other family members at decent times to break the good news!I broke the news to Aaron for his birthday on September 9. This is a photo of Aaron's birthday present from me. I had to take three tests the day before his birthday to be absolutely sure (and because I liked watching those little lines get darker each time!).
He was scheduled for 24-hour duty on his birthday, and might not even be home on his birthday after 6am. I found an empty DVD case at my friend's house, and I covered the outside with white paper, and decorated the inside as shown in the picture, gluing the three positive tests inside. When I got home at 11pm on the 8th, Aaron was fast asleep. He woke up when I opened the door to our bedroom, and we started talking about how we each spent the day. I told him that I found a great birthday present for him and asked if he wanted it in the morning or now. Since he knew he'd probably be at the hospital all day on his birthday, he said he'd like it now. I had also purchased a funny pair of Japanese socks for him, so I presented the socks first. Then the DVD. He still had a lot of sleep in his eyes from waking up, and initially started opening the DVD case upside down and backwards. Then, he thought that the three sticks were actually a cutlery set before realizing they were pregnancy tests! He couldn't see the lines since the lamplight was too dim. He asked if they were positive, and all I could answer with was a sheepish grin on my face! His response: "Yaaaaaay, you CAN get pregnant!" (this was a response to a conversation earlier that month about possible infertility problems that I've been told to anticipate).
Then during the month of October, we saw most of our relatives, and broke the news to them then. When it came to my mother, however, I wanted to tell her in a special way. She and I were to meet in Burbank for my cousin's wedding and then fly back to Art's together. I didn't want to steal the spotlight from the newlyweds with my news, so I waited until after Mom and I got back to Art's to tell her. In case you can't tell below, there's a puzzle piece that was cut and left out of the bottom of the photo I give my mom in the video. My brother videotaped her reaction, here's how it went:
And to those of you whom we haven't yet told, we're getting to you!
I'm still wiping away the tears. Thanks for sharing, babe!!
ReplyDeleteSo I am sitting here crying my eyes out. That is a great video. I love your mother's reaction!
