Back from Kyoto

I just returned from four days in Kyoto with my friend Susan. Kyoto was awesome. Bustling, but awesome. I had seen some scenes from Memoirs of a Geisha and thought that the city would still be that historic looking. Not so. Lots of people, skyscrapers, and shopping malls. However, the shrines and temples were all still beautifully preserved. Crowds (read: hordes, throngs, legions) of tourists flock to Kyoto at this time of year to view the spectrum of fall colors as the leaves in the temple gardens begin to turn with the season. Hard to believe that leaves could draw so many people to one area, but when I saw how beautiful it was, I knew why the Japanese are so proud of it:
And although it's a very serene view, this is the congestion of tourist crowds we had to contend with to get that view:
Baby and I were fine despite the crowds and the walking. Comfy shoes were key on this trip. One man rang the bell/gong so loud at one of the shrines that I felt baby leap with surprise afterwards! Sunday marked our 15th week of pregnancy, and according to babyzone.com,

This week, your little one is around four inches long (crown to rump) and weighs in at nearly three ounces. The appearance changes as scalp hair grows and may even have color. Developing facial muscles make it possible to open and close the mouth, maybe even give you a smile or two.

And finally, here's the belly shot for week 15 (goodbye waistline):
