Madelyn's first birthday was during our time in California. We were already planning a get-together as a send-off for my cousin Louie, who was leaving for his second tour in Iraq; and my cousin Darren, who was also celebrating a birthday. So we also jumped on the party train and celebrated her first birthday that weekend before her real birthday.
Many of you know that we have huge family gatherings. Poor Maddie wasn't prepared for the onslaught of cheek-pinching, coochie-cooing, kissing, hugging relatives that we had in store for her. She was a bit overwhelmed. What's more, is the party was during her big midday nap, so she was also exhausted on top of tired. I usually don't let Madelyn have her binky outside of the carseat and the crib, but this day was a special exception. She mostly hung around me and my brothers. She especially loved her Tito Ariel!
