Okay, Maddie was actually two months old about 3-1/2 weeks ago, but our original pediatrician deployed, so we had to reschedule later for 9 weeks old...but then that pediatrician was hospitalized, so we had to wait two more weeks for a third pediatrician. Whew! I'm just glad she got seen before it was time for her 4 month appointment!
We got to our appointment plenty early. I know how pediatric clinics can get behind schedule really fast, so I always book the first appointment of the day at 0800. We rode there in style and comfort, since Aaron and I bought a minivan yesterday. *gasp* Yes, I'm now officially one of those moms! To quote the movie Stepbrothers: "There's so much more room for activities!"
Anyway, it was good we got there early, because we found out that the doctor who took a lot of the hospitalized doctor's patient load ended up double-booked for half the morning. She hasn't been ill, so we were in and out of the appointment in 20 minutes, not contributing to any schedule lags. She measures 75th percentile for weight and length, which I could have figured by the size of her thighs. I swear, her legs are thicker than my wrists! She is 12 lbs, 4.8 oz, and 23.75 inches.
That leg girth would prove useful at the next appointment next door to the peds clinic...immunizations. I wasn't looking forward to her first round of shots, but it went surprisingly well. It helped that Aaron joined us there. She gulped down the oral vaccination like it was candy. She screeched a little with the shots in her thighs (two in the left, one in the right), but calmed down with a few pulls on the pacifier. As soon as she was done, we had to hang out for a few minutes to make sure she didn't have any reactions, so we gave her tylenol then. She fell asleep immediately after that. When they cleared us to leave, I headed to the hospital's "lactation lounge" and nursed her while she was half asleep. Little girly was worn out.
As I type this, she's falling asleep during tummy time. She's still a little put out from this morning. I think I'll wait until next week to have her ears pierced (the piercers need proof of two month shots to do it). That'd be just too much for one day, I think. The phrase that sums it up whenever she whimpers today is in Tagalog: Kawawa naman (poor thing)! She'll get lots of extra cuddles today, for sure! Here's a pic of her bandaged thighs...
