We just returned yesterday from a weekend in Jacksonville visiting family. It was our first time taking munchkin on the road for more than 30 minutes. We did pretty well, the drive used to take us 5 hours (including breaks), this time it took us 6 hours because we had to feed & change Maddie twice along the way.
She did great, no major meltdowns, and no diaper blowouts in the carseat. She mostly slept along the way. When she was awake, she'd watch the scenery zoom by while sucking on her hands. If she got cranky, I'd make my way to the second row of seats (no way I could do that if we still had the Jetta) to sit by her and entertain her. But overall, she was a happy passenger.
When we got home, I accidentally threw my back out when lifting her in her carseat out of the van. I guess I didn't realize how much weight I was attempting to lift. So I have a doctor's appointment this morning. I'm glad Aaron works at the hospital, he's going to meet me when I get there so I don't have to lift the carseat out of the car when I get there. Coming home is another story, I'll probably have to bring a stepstool out to the garage to help me get a better angle of leverage. Wish me luck!
