I hadn't intended to write again until the 23-week entry later today...but once again, I've found another "green" parenting opportunity I wanted to blog about.
My new Google obsession? Cloth baby wipes. Everything sounds good in theory. Just like cloth diapering. We've decided to stick with gDiapers for when she gets big enough to fit them (who knows, she may be a "big damulag" right off the bat and be able to fit them right away). But what about the other disposable aspect of diapering: Wipes?
I think it's a lot easier and cost-efficient to run a load of a couple dozen cloth wipes (pieces of flannel the size of a washcloth) through our high-efficiency washer than keep running to Target for refills that will sit in the rubbish bin until trash day. Instead of a trash can, the wipes would go into a waterproof "wet bag" until everything (wipes + wet bag) goes in the wash every other day.
Also - and this is my major contention - many of you know how wickedly sensitive my skin is. To me, that translates to a baby with equally sensitive skin. With cloth, I'll make my own wipe solution that includes tea tree oil (for the antifungal/disinfectant properties), so I'll know exactly what's going on her bottom and how fresh the solution is. Tea tree oil has saved my skin on many occasions. I love it.
Sounds totally plausible to me. Wish me luck talking Aaron into it.
